Designated Substance Removal

Designated Substance Removal

There are 11 Designated Substances.  Asbestos, Lead, Mercury and Silica are the ones that may be present in residential homes, commercial and industrial properties.

Designated Substances have Regulations that apply to the management and removal of these hazardous substances.

Lead Removal

According the WHO there is no level of exposure to lead that is known to be without harmful effects.  Lead paint is common in older homes.  Sanding and removals without precautions can be harmful.

Mercury Removal

Mercury can be found in thermostats, fluorescent tube lights, fever thermometers, switches and relays

Silica Removal

Silica is usually one of the designated substances that surprise most of our customers.  Generally, most know of Asbestos, Lead and Mercury but Silica which is in many materials is not often thought of.

Crystalline silica is a common mineral found in the earths crust.  Sand, stone, concrete and mortar contain crystalline silica.  And can be used to make products such as glass, pottery, ceramics, bricks and artificial stone.

Respirable crystalline silica (very small particles at least 100 times smaller than ordinary sand) is created when cutting, sawing, grinding drilling and crushing stone rock, concrete, brick, block and mortar.
